Projektausstellung
Begegnungen interessieren mich: was passiert wenn ich in einem fremden Land zufällig Menschen begegne und sie dann fotografiere? Wir haben vielleicht keine gemeinsame Sprache, keine gemeinsame Kultur, sondern nur den einen Moment in dem unsere Wege sich kreuzen. Was sind die Folgen davon?
Vielleicht eine Art fotografische Darstellung von der Umgebung und von den Menschen, die da wohnen oder da zu Besuch sind. Sie alle, der Ort wie auch die Leute, haben ihre eigene Geschichte und ihre Gegenwart, und dazu noch den Blick eines fremden Menschen, meinen Blick.
Im Juni 2017 habe ich die Gegend von Wedding in Berlin kennengelernt und Hintergrundarbeiten für meine zukünftige Ausstellung gemacht. Ich habe die Absicht, die Fotos in drei Wochen vor der Eröffnung der Ausstellung zu machen und ich werde auch noch eine Woche danach fotografieren. Die Ausstellung darf sich verändern und durch meine Erlebnisse neu gestalten.
Für mehr als dreißig Jahre habe ich als Pressefotograf gearbeitet. Gleichzeitig habe ich eigene Fotoausstellungen veranstaltet und gemeinsame Projekte mit Künstlern gemacht, sowohl in Finnland als auch international. Es freut mich sehr, dass meine Projektausstellung ”Begegnungen” in Gallerie Toolbox stattfindet, direkt im Herzen von Wedding.

Project exhibition
I'm interested in encounters: what happens when I meet and take pictures of random people in a strange country? We may not have a common language or culture, just the moment when our roads cross. What comes next? Possibly some sort of a view about the environment and the people who live or visit this area. Both, the location and the people, have their own history and their own present situation, and in addition to all that, there’s a stranger’s look, mine.
In June 2017, I learned to know the district of Wedding in Berlin, doing some background work for this forthcoming exhibition. My idea is to take most of the pictures for the exhibition during the three weeks before the opening and also continue taking pictures for a week after that. The show is allowed to change and live through my experiences.
I have been a press photographer for well over thirty years. At the same time I have given my own photo exhibitions, and collaborated with artists, both in Finland and internationally. I am pleased to give an exhibition of my project "Encounters" in Galerie Toolbox, which is located in the heart of Wedding.
The exhibition has been supported by Finnish JOKES (Foundation for Promotion of Journalistic Culture).

Projektinäyttely
Minua kiinnostaa kohtaaminen, mitä tapahtuu, kun kuvaan vieraassa maassa satunnaisia henkilöitä? Meillä ei ehkä ole yhteistä kieltä tai kulttuuria, ainoastaan se hetki, kun kohtaamme. Mitä siitä seuraa? Weddingin alue on monimuotoista ja kiinnostavaa. Siellä asuu useita eri kulttuureja edustavia ihmisiä, kuitenkin yhteiskunta muokkaa ja muuttaa asukkaiden perinteitä, miten se näkyy?
Tutustuin 2017 kesäkuussa projektin alueeseen Berliinissä, tehden taustatyötä tulevaan näyttelyyni. Ajatukseni on kuvata tuoreita kuvia 3 viikon ajan ennen näyttelyn avaamista ja vielä sen jälkeen viikon ajan. Näyttelyllä on lupa muuttua ja elää kokemuksieni kautta.
Olen ollut lehtikuvaajana reilusti yli kolmekymmentä vuotta, samaan aikaan olen tehnyt omia valokuvanäyttelyitä sekä yhteistyöprojekteja taiteilijoiden kanssa, sekä Suomessa että kansainvälisesti. Olen iloinen saadessani toteuttaa ”Kohtaamisia” projektinäyttelyn Galerie Toolboxissa.
